Linking up with Jess for some IBOT

Weight loss is a major concern for most Australians/Americans, but
it often takes a backseat to taste and variety. Few dishes are as tasty and
cheap as pizza, and it's next to impossible for a dieter to avoid it altogether
while he/she works the pounds off. The good news is that pizza comes in so many
varieties that it's entirely possible to order healthy variants, and dieters
are free to enjoy themselves without having to worry about breaking the scales.
Vegetables Are Better Than Meat
The meats that are usually used as pizza toppings are
high in fat and calories, and it's so easy to eat too much that dieters are
better off avoiding meat-laden pizza altogether. Veggies are a different story;
they're low enough in calories that there can be a big heaping pile of them on
every slice and a dieter wouldn't have to worry about eating too much.
Try Leaner Meats
Some people just can't enjoy themselves without a bit of
meat. That's where chicken comes in; it's a lean meat with all the perks of the
fattier alternatives with none of the downsides. Some pizza places also offer
turkey and shrimp, so if someone wants a little more variety or chicken just
isn't his/her thing, he can probably something that will match his tastes.
Go for Thin Crust
People may not realize it, but much of what makes pizza
such a fatty food is all the dough in the crust. When it comes to most pizzas,
that's nothing more than lots of empty calories, and opting for thin crust can
reduce the calorie count of each slice by 100 or more.
Request Extra Sauce
Tomatoes are incredibly healthy, and asking for extra
sauce can add flavor while simultaneously increasing the nutritional value of
the pizza. Since a big part of what makes pizza sauce so appealing is all the
herbs and spices that are added to the mix, dieters can get a good dose of
antioxidants while dining guilt-free.
Order Less Cheese or None at All
Cheese-less pizza does exist, and while it may be a
bigger leap than some dieters are willing to take, they can still reduce their
calorie intake by ordering less cheese. Cheese is an incredibly fatty and
calorie-dense food, and it's one of the biggest things that dieters should be
concerned about. Ordering less cheese can reduce the calorie count per slice as
much as ordering thin crust, and ordering no cheese can reduce the calorie
count even more than opting for thin crust.
Eat First, Dine Later
Something as simple as eating a few carrot sticks can
greatly reduce someone's appetite once the pizza arrives. It's a good idea for
dieters to determine how many slices they'll allow themselves beforehand so
they can eat an adequate amount of food to fill the hunger gap if they think
there will be one.
Avoid Side Dishes
Bread sticks might be tempting, but side dishes are how
excess calories sneak their way into meals. Health-conscious individuals should
stick to the main course if they want to slim down or maintain fat loss.
Vigilance is key, and as long as dieters remain aware of what they're eating,
they can enjoy excellent food without setbacks.
Dieting or not, What is your favourite pizza/toppings?
I love a BBQ chicken and bacon on a thin base.
