Recently we have been looking at a few properties..
What makes a good home?
Is it the driveway pattern?
The Gap between houses?
Stairs? or tiles?
The Kitchen?
Ensuite? What do you think about the squareness?
If you could go back and purchase your first home again, what would you change?
What tips can you share with a 'Newbie' First home buyer?

For us, I think an extra bedroom, an internal laundry and fitting comfortably within budget makes a perfect home. I don't think we'll be in a position to be choosey :(
How exciting for you! We have just bought our first home and I think it could look like a wreck and I'd still love it because it's ours -well the banks too but at least I get to put as many nails in the wall as I like! Loving pride of ownership. x
I would say do NOT buy a renovator! We've been in ours for 8 years and it's still not finished. Good luck :)
If I could go back and do it again I would make sure we were not in a unit attached to a mad lady's unit. Do not live somewhere that has strata, especially if it's just you and them! Too much hassle!
Great photos. A home for me always includes a place for everything. Nothing more or less
We brought the worst house in a good area at such a cheap price, renovated and then sold it at the right time.
The things that we would differently...research the area a bit more!
We brought a huge Queenslander and added lots of value.
Some days I wished that we had kept the house, and rented it out...other times I am happy that we no longer have to worry about it!
The most important thing when looking for a house - is it going to suit your family, can you have enough space to grow, is there two bathrooms, or can you add more space? Will you be able to renovate cheaply to add value? Would you all be close enough to schools/work and be happy with the area...
um gosh I could easiy go on!!
All the best with house hunting.
good luck! I hope you find your dream home soon! x
We bought a whole lot of potential.
Somedays the 'potential' craps me to tears!!!
Good luck.
:-) xx
I think our biggest mistake was moving out of the area we loved, just so we could afford a bigger home... needless to say, within the year we were back where we began - just in a (much) smaller place. For us it was all about being where we wanted to be, less about the house in the end (in saying that, if we won tattslotto tomorrow, we'd be in a bigger home n a flash... just in the same suburb!)
Hello, if you think you'll have kids then I'd say a flat backyard, no stairs, no decks... and a pool!!
We moved into our second home recently. we spent ages looking off and on. when we walked into this one we just knew - every other one we had walked away with doubts but this one got us excited and we could see ourselves living in it, so I guess my advice would be to make an offer on a house that you connect with :) Good luck - it can be such a stressful time!
I think we did pretty well the first time for the budget we have. I still love our home. Next time it just needs to be a bit bigger.
Well, for us it was the shed! My hubby would go and check out the shed (or look for the flatness of the backyard in order to potentially put a shed on it) and then if that was good, I would go and inspect the house. Strange? - the real estate agent thought so...but, hubby is an engineer who works from home and we had 3 big machines in a container needing a BIG shed lol
Id look at space. Wether the driveway for next door was close to the bedrooms. Id chose a house with a bigger living space. Check to make sure there is no pealing paint or patches that have been painted over on ceilings (we now have alot over our house because the paint was never put on properly. Huge job to fix it) and id pay more attention to drainage and also id never move next to a huge tree like we did.
hehe but thats just me :) Goodluck with it :) An ensuite square or not would be awesome!!!
For us we compromised on location for size. Big mistake. I wanted to move almost as soon as we moved in and definitely did not want to do any improvements. It was not a love affair with my first house purchase!!
The second was a better location but a desperation purchase to get out of number 1!
Geez I sound so sad! We are now renting in the area we really want to be until we find a house within budget.
Such great images - I never get much choice - hubby does it all. Great suggestions from others.
We currently live in a shed so all look fab to me.
