Melbourne Cup Day - Giddy up go!

Linking up with Jess over @ Diary of a SAHM.

So... Today is the big race!
  • Melbourne Cup Day is Australia’s best known horse racing event held on the first Tuesday of November every year. It is an annual public holiday in the state of Victoria. This event is popularly dubbed as “the race that stops the nation”.
  • The Melbourne Cup is contested over a distance of 3200 metres.
Today i'm being nosy and would like to know:

How do you pick your horse?
Do you research the horse or just pick one because of its name?
Are you lucky enough to be at the race?

I Don't research the race, wouldn't even know where to begin
I find a horse or 3 with a name/s that really stands out to me.
And i haven't yet made it to the race.

Who do you think might win this year?
I'm thinking Niwot might come in this year. Maybe!

Good luck to everyone having a bet today!
I'd love to hear how you went.

Dont forget to head over to Diary of a SAHM to link up!

*Edited*
I ended up putting a bet on Niwot, Precedence & Illo and there all still running. Maybe next year.

I don't do much in the way of Melbourne Cup - never really got into it!

We had a lunch here with some fillies and their foals!
I won 2nd prize in the sweep but 3yo Magoo woke up, saw my sweep sheet for today, and immediately told me number 3 would win.
Hubby put $5 on it at the TAB - and the bugger won!!!
:-)

I haven't got a clue but I love going in the sweeps, this year we did one with our friends and hubby won! I would love to go one year just to see the spectacle of it.

Niwot and Illo were my picks, no dice!

I totally forgot about it, but boatman won $15 in a sweep so we had takeout for dinner. I've never really got into the Melbourne cup, or any kind of horse racing; just not my thing :)
